How can a client make sure they get quality services from a qualified lines counselor. Recognition is the only way to ensure that e-counseling service is comparable with face to face counseling services.
In late 1990, the Institute to carry out research and offer e-counseling lines service was established. Institute operating in the United States, the International Society of Mental Health Online (ISMHO) is responsible lines for conducting research, monitoring and drafting of ethics in the conduct of e-counseling (Chester & Glass, 2006; Fenichel et al, 2002; Griffith & Cooper, 2003). In 1997, the American Psychological Association (APA) issued a procedure for the services through the Internet in 1997 that "APA lines Statement lines on Services by Telephone, Teleconferencing and Internet". APA recommends all counselors who are interested in doing internet services to adopt all APA ethics code and is supported by these guidelines.

American lines Counseling Association issued guidelines The Ethics Standards for Internet Online Counseling in 1999 as a uniform guide in using the medium of internet in e-counseling service offerings. American Counseling Association Code of Ethics lists all 13 guidelines issued by NBCC and add some other components that need to speak to a counselor about the client;
In 2001, the British Association for Counselling and psychotherapy (BACP) has issued ethical guidelines entitled Online Counselling Guidelines. To meet the technical proliferation of the internet, BACP update and revise the Guidelines in 2005.

ISMHO has issued "Guidelines for Conducting E-Counselling lines Service" in 1999. (Chester & Glass, 2006; Hall, 2004; Manhal-Baugus, 2001). 3 key elements in the operation of e-counseling is;

The rapid growth of virtual counseling services are also getting attention in our country. Counselor Board as an organization that monitors counseling services in Malaysia has also issued a "Code of Ethics for Counselling Services In Line" as a guide for e-counseling practitioners specialized in Malaysia (Amir Awang, 2006).
Even Universiti Sains Malaysia has issued a "Code of Ethics for Online Counseling Universiti Sains Malaysia" (Nor Zaida, 2006). A code of ethics is designed for universities offer e-counseling services to students. Drafting a code of ethics to help this trained counselors and counselor trainees in universities to conduct e-counseling service in their official website before the Code of Conduct lines promulgated Board of Counsellors released.
Shaw & Shaw, 2006 has taken the initiative lines to produce a checklist for e-counseling practitioners to ensure they have complied with the code
